Triple H Finally Reveals His Reaction To Cody Rhodes Smashing The Throne At AEW Double Or Nothing 2019

What did Triple H think about Cody Rhodes smashing up the throne at AEW Double or Nothing?

It only took him five years but Triple H has finally talked about Cody Rhodes smashing the throne at AEW Double or Nothing 2019.

Double or Nothing was All Elite Wrestling's inaugural event and ahead of his match against Dustin Rhodes, Cody grabbed a sledgehammer and used it to destroy a throne that strongly resembled the chairs previously used by Triple H during his special entrances in WWE, particularly after he established himself as 'The King of Kings.'

How WWE reacted to the throne smash was unknown until today as Triple H revealed on Allan & Carly that he laughed about the spot after it happened.

"I laughed about it then. People make that stuff out to be so much more than it is. If I was in his shoes, I'd have done the same thing. And it's one of the things that I love about Cody is, I watched Cody go from being a kid in this business, and I don't mean that as disrespectful. He's literally a kid," Triple H said.

"His dad was in some way a mentor to me. We started NXT together. He was a big part of that system, I learned a lot from Dusty and sort of sitting under his learning tree as well. We had a wonderful partnership. And to see him grow from literally this kid to coming in, trying to find his way in the business, and come out of his dad's shadow which was monumental. Then gambling on himself to go find himself and find who he was."

Cody Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022 after departing All Elite Wrestling. The throne smash has become somewhat of a joke on social media, with many jokingly saying that Cody's failure to finish the story and beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 was Triple H's revenge for the throne smash. The throne smash then resurfaced again after Rhodes stepped aside for The Rock at WrestleMania 40, although Cody has since been re-added to the main event of this year's Mania

Whether Cody and Triple H have ever spoken to each other about the throne smash is unknown. They had not done so as of the Summer of 2023.
