Triple H Takes Dig At AEW In Cody Rhodes' Peacock Documentary

Triple H calls AEW a "secondary promotion"

The wrestling war between WWE and All Elite Wrestling remains important to Triple H.

WWE's documentary on Cody Rhodes was released on Peacock in the United States this week and the film covers Rhodes' role in forming All Elite Wrestling and his eventual departure from the promotion in February 2022. Cody reiterated in the documentary that he left Tony Khan's promotion due to a personal issue and Rhodes has made it no secret that he is aiming to "finish the story" and win the WWE Championship now that he is back in WWE.

Cody's comments ultimately provided an opening for Triple H to take a dig at AEW, with the WWE Chief Content Officer calling All Elite Wrestling a "secondary promotion."

"To then take that gamble again and say, 'This is not what I wanted to be. I didn't grow up dreaming of being the champion or the face of a secondary promotion. I wanted to be the WWE Champion,'" Triple H said in the documentary.

WWE and AEW have had frosty relations ever since AEW was founded back in 2019, with Triple H and Tony Khan initially going head to head in the Wednesday Night Wars of WWE NXT vs. AEW Dynamite. The new promotion ultimately came out on top, with NXT moving to Tuesday nights in April 2021.

Relations between WWE and AEW then seemed to be improving in 2022 but they worsened once again after Triple H was appointed WWE Chief Content Officer in the summer of last year, with WWE allegedly reaching out to several contracted AEW talents about jumping ship which prompted AEW's legal team to send WWE a cease-and-desist.

AEW CEO Tony Khan stated earlier this year that he does not believe that WWE have always ethically competed with AEW. Shots at WWE are also a semi-regular occurrence on AEW TV.
