Two Matches Set For 1/28 SmackDown

The final card before the Royal Rumble

Two matches have been announced for the January 28 episode of WWE SmackDown, taking place 24 hours before the 2022 Royal Rumble.

It remains to be seen if one of them will even take place, as Naomi is scheduled to go one on one with Sonya Deville.

The match has been teased on a number of occasions, and has even been scheduled before, but has never actually taken place.

On Friday's SmackDown, Deville made herself the referee for Naomi's match with Charlotte Flair, which Flair won.

Adam Pearce (with some help from special guest Eric Bischoff) recommended a match between Naomi and Deville to unseen WWE officials, who have approved the match for next Friday's SmackDown.

Also set for next week is a match pitting cross-brand New Day teammates Big E and Kofi Kingston against Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss. It marks the first time Kingston and Big E have teamed in a televised match since September.

Raw brand star Big E appeared on Friday's card, backing Kingston up in his win over Moss. All four men are entered into the 2022 men's Royal Rumble match.
