United States Championship Match Announced For WWE SmackDown
Rey Mysterio will defend the US Title next week
On last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Santos Escobar confronted his fellow Latino World Order faction member Rey Mysterio, and asked his mentor for a match at the United States Championship.
This comes after Santos Escobar defeated Rey Mysterio in the United States Title number one contender tournament, only to get ambushed by the former champion Austin Theory prior to their bout, ruling him out of the title match. Mysterio stepped in and won the belt in his place, and in the weeks since there has been some teased tension between the two men. Mysterio agreed to the title match last week (though a little reluctantly), but it wasn’t until this week’s SmackDown that the match was made official and a date was put in place.
WWE announced that the United States Championship between these two allies will take place next week.
The current line-up for SmackDown is as follows;
- Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Santos Escobar - United States Championship
- Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley
- Grayson Waller Effect with Bobby Lashley
