Update On Adam Cole's Contract Status

What's the latest?

After losing to Kyle O'Reilly in a two out of three falls match at NXT TakeOver 36 on Sunday night, many are wondering what's next for Adam Cole in professional wrestling, seeing as his deal with WWE expires relatively soon.

According to an update from Fightful Select, as of Sunday morning, Cole had not signed a new deal with WWE, beyond an agreed-upon extension to get him through TakeOver weekend.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider adds that the loss to O'Reilly was Cole's final appearance in NXT. This means he will either go to the main roster of WWE, or elect free agency, able to sign anywhere once his WWE deal expires.

The Young Bucks have already made allusions to Cole's impending free agent status, posting a link to a "séance" video in their Twitter bio as soon as Cole's TakeOver match ended (a reference to Cole being "killed off" on Being the Elite several years ago).

During the match with O'Reilly, Cole actually locked his former Undisputed Era teammate in the Lockjaw, the arm-scissor/mandible claw combination used by his girlfriend, AEW Women's champion Dr. Britt Baker.
