Update On Former WWE Superstar Cain Velasquez's Future In Wrestling
What's next for Cardio Cain...
May 7, 2020
Back on April 15, WWE released Cain Velasquez and 34 other Superstars. The releases came after the company announced they would be making cutbacks because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Velasquez had a largely uneventful run in WWE. After debuting on the October 4 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Cardio Cain went one on one with Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel for the WWE Championship. The match only lasted 123 seconds, however, as Velasquez tapped out to the Kimura Lock. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion then only wrestled one more time for the company, despite being cleared to return in February.
Velasquez hasn't publicly commented on his future, but his former MMA coach Javier Mendez told Luke Thomas at SiriusXM that Cain will not be returning to UFC because "He's wrestling."
Where the former WWE Superstar ends up wrestling remains to be seen. Before signing with WWE he enjoyed a brief stint in AAA and received praise for adopting more of a Lucha libre style. New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling also tried to sign Velasquez before he opted to join WWE.
