Update On Riho’s AEW Status

The former Women’s Champion has not been seen in AEW since March

AEW’s women’s division has been bolstered by several returns recently, with Kris Statlander, Thunder Rosa, and Serena Deeb all returning to action. But one name who may not be appearing anytime soon is Riho.

The inaugural AEW Women’s World Champion last worked for the company in March in the wake of the AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator Tournament, last facing Maki Itoh on the inaugural edition of AEW Dark Elevation.

Now according to a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Riho has been absent from AEW productions because she has returned to Japan.

There’s no indication of what Riho’s AEW contract status is, but she has taken sabbaticals from the company before due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and as one of the more established stars in AEW’s women’s division, it’s unlikely that she’s done with the company.

Alas, with Japan currently in a state of emergency due to a Covid spike, it is unlikely that we’ll see Riho in AEW any time soon.
