Varsity Blonds Officially Sign With AEW

After establishing themselves as one of AEW’s premier tag teams during the pandemic era, The Varsity Blonds (Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr.) have officially signed permanent deals with the company.

While the news may come as a shock to AEW fans seeing as the two were permanent features across all of AEW TV for the past year, Fightful Select reports that Pillman Jr. was waiting for his previous deal with MLW to officially expire before putting pen to paper on a permanent AEW deal, with the two performing in AEW on tiered deals.

Fightful also reported that whilst both men signing was expected by AEW higher ups, they wanted to ‘do their best to match up the full-time deals as far as dates go’.

Pillman’s partner Garrison had earlier announced his signing with the company, and Pillman Jr. following suit is a great acquisition for AEW. The team have challenged for gold on several occasions, losing an AEW World tag team Title bout against The Young Bucks, and Pillman Jr. losing an AEW TNT Championship bout against Miro in recent memory.

AEW clearly have high hopes for the team going forward, and this sentiment was echoed by Pillman Jr. who Tweeted:

“Blonds might have more fun, but it’s no more fun and games for the Blonds! We’ve got ONE THING on our minds and that is maintaining a spot as the top ranked tag team in the company and ultimately challenging, yet again, for the AEW TAG TEAM TITLES!!!”
