Vince McMahon Felt ‘Personally Upset’ About RVD’s Stripped WWE Title

RVD’s WWE and ECW Titles were unceremoniously taken away after his arrest in 2006

2006 saw the pinnacle of Rob Van Dam’s career, when the Whole F’n Show defeated John Cena at ECW One Night Stand to become WWE and ECW World Champion. Then less than a month later, Rob Van Dam suffered one of the lowest points of his career, when after being arrested for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, he was stripped of both titles, losing the WWE Title to Edge on the July 3 edition of Raw, and the ECW Title to Big Show the night after.

Now, after RVD’s jubilant induction to the WWE Hall of Fame, Vince McMahon has spoken of this turbulent time. Appearing on an episode of WWE Icons dedicated to Mr. Monday Night’s legendary career, Vince said the following:

“It was so disappointing, and I was personally upset over Rob’s actions because I thought he was above that. Obviously, as soon as that happens, you have to be concerned with the way the company looks, and Rob was not Champion for much longer.”

Van Dam himself knew that he had seriously messed up, and would never reach those heights in WWE again, adding:

“When I got to the building, Vince told me, ‘Rob, tonight you’re going to be stripped of your WWE Championship. Tomorrow, you’ll be stripped of the ECW Championship. He also said, ‘You’re gonna be suspended for 30 days.’ I knew that I had seriously dropped the ball on some major plans for WWE and for ECW.”
