EC3's third stint with TNA Wrestling has received criticism so far, primarily because the two-time TNA World Champion has been nowhere to be seen for most of it.

EC3, six years on from his last TNA appearance in 2020, made his return to the promotion at Rebellion 2026 and attacked Eric Young. This led to a very brief programme with Young, with EY winning their No DQ Match on the May 7 episode of Thursday Night IMPACT following a piledriver through a table on the outside and a second piledriver on a steel chair back in the ring.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reached out to EC3 about his TNA absence, to which he replied: "Michael, I was piledriven through both a table and spiked on an open chair. That was after Eric Young stomped on my d**k 17 times. Those are wounds that require some time and solitude to regroup and strategize."

Johnson also noted the belief is EC3 will be back on TNA programming after the storylines for Slammiversary have played out. The pay-per-view is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 28, the same day as AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and WWE NXT Great American Bash.

During his absence from TNA, EC3 has continued to perform on the independent wrestling scene, which includes him losing 11 times in singles matches to Chad Daniels on Canadian Wrestling's Elite latest tour.
