WWE made a change to El Grande Americano's presentation earlier this week and the reason for the alteration has been revealed.

Americano was in action at the WWE Speed taping ahead of Monday Night Raw on April 14 against Erik. The wrestler with a striking resemblance to Chad Gable had initially been billed as from the 'Gulf of America', playing on existing tensions between the United States and Mexico, but Americano was billed as from the Gulf of Mexico for Speed.

Dave Meltzer has reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE made the change because of complaints from fans in Mexico. Whether the change will be permanent is unknown, but Americano's presentation was at least changed for WWE Speed.

The Gulf of Mexico has been a contentious issue ever since US President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. This is despite the marginal sea being first referred to as the Gulf of Mexico back in 1550.

WWE have close ties to Donald Trump, with former WWE CEO Linda McMahon serving as the US Secretary of Education. WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H also heaped praise on Trump this week, saying he was charismatic in so many ways.
