Why WWE Scrapped Bron Breakker's Royal Rumble 2026 Win

Bron Breakker was originally on course to win the 2026 men's Royal Rumble match before WWE decided to scrap those plans, it has been confirmed in season three of the WWE Unreal docuseries.

Within a creative meeting to discuss the Royal Rumble, WWE writers Jonathan Baeckstrom and Ryan Ward pitched for Breakker to win the men's Rumble, but WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque ultimately decided not to go forward with the pitch due to fears of shoving Breakker down fans' throats.

"It doesn't feel like you're shoving him down your throat? I think you could make a shocking moment out of it, but I still worry a little bit that it feels like you're just shoving him down your throat," Triple H stated during the meeting.

Reports back in January noted that Breakker was scheduled to win the men's Royal Rumble and then move on to win the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk at WrestleMania 42. Those plans were scrapped, however, and Roman Reigns ultimately won the Royal Rumble ahead of defeating Punk for the Big Gold Belt at WWE's biggest show of the year.

Triple H's comments about Bron Breakker on WWE Unreal have received criticism, with claims on social media arguing the WWE chief content officer's reasoning doesn't make sense considering Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble and he has been one of WWE's top stars stretching back to 2014.

Bron Breakker has experienced a mixed 2026 and he was out of action due to injury from February to April. Following his return, Breakker ultimately lost his feud to Seth Rollins, and he is currently one half of the World Tag Team Champions with Austin Theory.
