WWE is currently scheduled to head over to Saudi Arabia in 2027 for WrestleMania 43, marking the first ever WrestleMania outside of North America. The decision to host WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia was a controversial one, even being booed by WWE fans upon its announcement. There have also been a lot of concerns surrounding the effects that the lack of a WrestleMania weekend in the US will have on the independent wrestling scene. Well, Will Ospreay has pitched an idea to combat WWE’s unpopular decision.
When speaking with Josh Martinez, Ospreay spoke on WrestleMania 43 weekend, and stated that he believes AEW should run a major show in the US on the same weekend.
“It has crossed my mind, especially hearing [WrestleMania] would be going to Saudi Arabia. Why not? There are going to be a bunch of wrestling fans that usually flock to whatever city they are in and it’s something we should heavily consider. I hope our boss [Tony Khan] is considering it. I think the best thing we can do, on that day that WrestleMania is in Saudi Arabia, make affordable tickets for one of the greatest wrestling shows ever and make it a whole week. Ring of Honor on Saturday. Help out a bunch of Indie promotions on Friday. We can definitely formulate such a great, affordable time for wrestling fans and families. If we don’t look at that, what’s the point of doing it?”
With current conflicts in the Middle East, it was noted in recent weeks that WWE were preparing contingency plans in case WrestleMania 43 cannot be hosted in Saudi Arabia. Prior to the conflicts, the likes of The Rock were reportedly being offered major money deals to compete at the show.
