'Wrestlers' Leads To Immediate Boost In Business For OVW

Positive news on OVW

The Netflix series 'Wrestlers' has only been a positive for Ohio Valley Wrestling.

The docuseries about OVW covers the promotion after Al Snow sold a majority stake in the company to local businessmen in Louisville, Kentucky. All episodes were added to Netflix on September 13 and Fightful Select has reported that 'Wrestlers' has had an immediate impact on business for the promotion.

Specific metrics are not available but viewership of the promotion's online shows has doubled in recent weeks. OVW TV, which is available on YouTube, has regularly drawn more than 10,000 viewers. A match featuring Hollyhood Haley J, one of the featured talents in the docuseries, has more than 179,000 views since it was uploaded two weeks ago.

In addition to YouTube, OVW TV is available on FITE and a number of TV stations across the United States. Tom Campbell recently spoke to Al Snow about his future plans for OVW and 'Wrestlers.'

The official synopsis for 'Wrestlers' stated: "Once a proud finishing school for aspiring pro wrestlers, the gym has since hit hard times. Acclaimed wrestler Al Snow clings to an old-school wrestling philosophy with a heavy emphasis on storytelling, but in spite of the love of a few diehard fans, the gym struggles week to week to stay relevant enough to keep its doors open. Things have become so dire financially that Al has to sell a majority stake to a group of local businessmen including Matt Jones, the most popular radio personality in the state of Kentucky. Matt and the new ownership group have infused the struggling gym with much-needed cash but it still operates at a staggering loss. The new owners have given Al the summer to turn things around. Wrestlers chronicles the efforts Al and his band of aspiring wrestlers make as they struggle with their personal ambitions and each other while they attempt to come together to save this historic gym."
