Memphis wrestling legend Bill Dundee has passed away, aged 82, and the wrestling world has paid tribute to the ‘Superstar’.
Dundee’s death was announced by son Jamie Dundee on Facebook on September 6, with Jamie posting the following:
“With a heavy heart ot hurts me to have to say this …At 330 this morning the SUPERSTSR BILL DUNDEE has passed away …I love you Dad illl catch you on the OTHERSIDE…….. REST IN PIECE SUPERSTAR …Love Bill’s Boy Jamie Caird (pimpsker)”
One of the biggest names in Memphis Wrestling history, Dundee notably feuded and tagged with Jerry Lawler and Jimmy Valiant, and also enjoyed tag success with ‘Nature Boy’ Buddy Landell. With a career that spanned six decades, Dundee held titles in the NWA, CWA, AWA, and across the territories, with his last title win coming in GCW in 2019 shortly before his retirement.
Jamie Dundee revealed in 2023 that his father was suffering from late stage dementia, with his death believed to be due to his condition, as well as a short battle with double pneumonia.
News of Dundee’s passing prompted tributes from the wrestling world:
“I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Bill Dundee. A lad born in Scotland who moved to Australia then came to the US and became a big star in the wrestling. We worked together when I first came here and he helped make my act work. My deepest condolences to his family. Rest well,” wrote William Regal.
“Today I was woken up to the heartbreaking news that a man I looked at as a second father, “Superstar” Bill Dundee passed away. He was a man I loved and admired, he was an inspiration. My prayers for his entire family and friends! I’ll miss you Superstar!” Bobby Fulton.
