WWE Announce Dates Of Second Mae Young Classic

The all-woman tournament returns to Full Sail.

WWE today announced via press release details of the second Mae Young Classic tournament.

Last year's inaugural edition of the tournament saw Kairi Sane defeat current NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler in the final. It also featured excellent performances from the likes of Toni Storm, Piper Niven (Viper), and breakout star Bianca Belair.

This year's Mae Young Classic will again take place at Full Sail University - the location of regular NXT tapings - on August 8 and 9. There is no word yet on when these shows will be aired on the WWE network. In an official statement, Triple H said:

“We are thrilled to once again present the Mae Young Classic and provide a global showcase for 32 of the top female talent from around the world. Last year’s event was a significant milestone in WWE’s Women’s Evolution, and I am confident this year’s event will break even more barriers.”

If the second WWE UK Championship Tournament is anything to go by, we could see some competitors from the first Mae Young Classic return for a second attempt. This year's UK tournament again saw the likes of Jordan Devlin and Joseph Conners.

One highly-fancied potential frontrunner is surely Toni Storm, who reportedly signed a WWE UK contract according to Dave Meltzer. She also recently dropped her title in Japanese women's promotion STARDOM.

Storm was eliminated in the semi-finals of last year's Classic, and took part in two of the best-received matches of the entire tournament - her quarter-final bout with Piper Niven, and eventual loss to Kairi Sane.
