WWE Called Out For Using Controversial Footage In WrestleMania 39 Video Package

WWE have been condemned for footage used at WrestleMania 39

WWE have been condemned by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum for using footage of the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp in a video package to promote the WrestleMania 39 match between Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio.

The museum tweeted: "The fact that Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call 'an editing mistake'. Exploiting the site that became a symbol of enormous human tragedy is shameless and insults the memory of all victims of Auschwitz."

The footage of Auschwitz-Birkenau was used during a video package on the WrestleMania 39 night one kickoff show on Saturday, April 1. The images were removed by the time the video package aired again during the WrestleMania 39 main card.

WWE have yet to comment on the situation as of the time of writing.

The Auschwitz concentration camp was a complex of over 40 concentration and extermination camps in Nazi Germany-occupied Poland during World War Two and the Holocaust. Over 1.1 million people, including 960,000 Jews, died at the camp.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum was established in 1947 and became a World Heritage Site in 1979. The museum includes the main concentration camp at Auschwitz I and the remains of Auschwitz II-Birkenau.
