WWE have altered El Grande Americano's presentation.

Americano - a masked luchador with a striking resemblance to Chad Gable - was billed as from the 'Gulf of America' for his in-ring debut on the March 24 edition of Monday Night Raw. Americano's hometown was not mentioned for his six-man tag team match with The Creed Brothers against the LWO on April 7, but fan footage has revealed the luchador was billed as from the 'Gulf of Mexico' during the April 14 taping of WWE Speed. Americano wrestled and defeated Erik in a match which will air on a future episode of the X/Twitter show.

Americano being billed as from the 'Gulf of America' was immediately criticised following the March 24 episode of WWE Raw. The Gulf of Mexico has been a contentious issue in the United States and Mexico since US President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Google Maps have since renamed the marginal sea to 'Gulf of America' for users in the United States, while 'Gulf of Mexico' is used in Mexico and 'Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)' is displayed for international users.

The marginal sea was first referred to as the 'Gulf of Mexico' on a world map all the way back in 1550.

El Grande Americano will be in action at WrestleMania 41 when he faces Rey Mysterio on night one of WWE's biggest show of the year on Saturday, April 19.
