The future of AEW on TBS & TNT is one that is unsure following the Paramount/WBD merger. AEW’s current television deal expires at the end of 2027, and despite it being the second highest rated weekly show on TBS and with WBD being confirmed to have a minority stake in the promotion over the last several months, there is plenty of talk that AEW will be unable to secure a new deal with the company.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are those in WWE who are of the belief that AEW will not be on Paramount/Skydance in a couple of years, with even those in the higher up positions sharing the opinion that AEW will either be unable to secure another deal with any television network, unless it is a deal worth much less than their recent deal with WBD. It should be noted that there was uncertainty prior to AEW’s previous deal, which proved to mean little as AEW secured a big money extension with WBD.
Tony Khan himself spoke on the merger and showcased a lot of positivity regarding the future of AEW with the company.
