WWE NXT Results - December 21, 2021

A lot happened on NXT

The latest edition aired from the WWE Performance Center on Tuesday and set up several matches for the New Year's Evil special on January 4.

NXT opened with a promo from Tommaso Ciampa and the NXT Champion reflected on taking out Bron Breakker to close out last week's show. Instead of Breakker interrupting this week, though, Ciampa invited him to the ring and ultimately challenged him to an NXT Title rematch at New Year's Evil, recognising that Breakker did pin him at WarGames.

Some trash talk from Ciampa about Breakker not being ready to be NXT Champion followed which led to snarls and screams from The Blackheart until Bron snapped and hoisted Ciampa into the air before putting him down. Breakker instead left Ciampa with a simple message, "Blood is in the water. This shark is gonna eat you alive."

The final chapter of Raquel Gonzalez's feud with Dakota Kai was also seemingly written on NXT as both women faced off in a Street Fight. Such was their animosity, though, they started brawling backstage before the match, using a cart and other weapons they could find backstage to batter one another.

They eventually made their way to the ring and the former friends had a short, five-minute Street Fight that featured a Double Stomp to Gonzalez while a trash can was over her head. Gonzalez quickly fought back with a Powerbomb on the steel steps to Kai and then a Chingona Bomb on a trash can for the victory.

Gonzalez was ready for another match straight away despite the Street Fight and she challenged Mandy Rose to an immediate NXT Women's Championship match. Instead of Rose, though, Gonzalez was interrupted by Cora Jade and both women bickered until the NXT Women's Champion appeared via video link from a pool.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, Rose announced she would defend the NXT Women's Title against both Cora Jade and Raquel Gonzalez at New Year's Evil. Toxic Attraction then ended the segment standing tall as Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne took out Gonzalez and Jade from behind.

A title unification match will also take place at New Year's Evil when NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes faces NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong. Both men ended up brawling during Dexter Lumis' match with Trick Williams and Hayes later accepted Strong's challenge for a title vs. title match. Also, Lumis won his match after Hayes abandoned Williams, putting Trick to sleep with his Silence submission.

Lumis couldn't do much after the bell, however, as Grayson Waller attacked him from behind with a steel chair.

This led into the scheduled segment between Waller and AJ Styles and both men traded insults, with Grayson claiming Styles was only there because he needed a new tag team partner after Omos walked out on him on Raw, while Styles questioned if Waller could be a future WWE star when he cares more about "swipes and likes" than wins and losses. Waller then threatened the two-time WWE Champion but he backed away after Styles mentioned he had been phenomenal for over 20 years, with Grayson saying he would allow Omos to "get" AJ first.

The storyline between Xyon Quinn and Elektra Lopez also continued on NXT with Quinn costing the Legado del Fantasma member against Io Shirai. After both women had fought for a couple of minutes, Quinn headed to the ring and took out Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza before he put mistletoe above Lopez's head. They looked set to kiss but Escobar attacked Quinn from behind and Io Shirai took advantage, catching Lopez with a Palm Strike and a Moonsault for the win.

Elsewhere on NXT, Grizzled Young Veterans vs. The Creeds Brothers ended in a no-contest after a mass brawl that also featured Jacket Time and Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs broke out, Edris Enofe surprised Von Wagner with a quick roll-up for a shock win only for Wagner to attack him afterwards. Riddle and MSK also had another fun comedy segment in which The Original Bro told them to call out Imperium next week before they scootered around, were hit by a car and came back to life. Brian Kendrick will also come out of retirement next week to face Harland.

In the main event, Pete Dunne defeated Tony D'Angelo after he avoided a crowbar shot and hit the Bitter End. Dunne wasn't allowed to stand tall to end the show, though, as D'Angelo struck his hand with the crowbar as NXT went off the air.
