WWE NXT Results - February 10, 2021: Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semi-Finals

The last stop before NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day

Last night's edition of NXT was very much dominated by both Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics and the black and gold brand hosted the remaining three semi-finals.

The tag team bouts were held throughout the night and MSK, Grizzled Young Veterans and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon all punched their ticket to NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day. The winners of the men's tournament will earn an NXT Tag Team Title shot while the Women's Dusty Cup holders will face Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax for the Women's Tag Team Championship at a later date.

The black and gold brand also built towards NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day throughout the show with various video packages and staredowns, but much of the build inside the Capitol Wrestling Center centred around the NXT North American Championship bout.

Following Austin Theory's announcement last night that Johnny Gargano would not be able to compete on Sunday, The Way made their way to the ring with the North American Champion wheelchair-bound. Gargano told the audience he had fractured his left arm in four places following Kushida's attack last week and he would be unable to defend the title on Sunday. William Regal then entered the ringside area and told Gargano that WWE's medical team had cleared him for in-ring action yesterday afternoon and demanded he end this "charade."

Johnny Wrestling immediately took offence at the accusation and presented an x-ray of his supposed arm being broken in four places. His plan came crashing down only moments later, though, as Regal pointed out the x-ray was for a broken right arm. Gargano tried to make up excuses but Regal told him he can either forfeit the North American Title or Austin Theory can defend the belt against Kushida later in the show as the champion's surrogate.

Kushida then popped up behind The Way in a comedic spot and played tug of war with Gargano over the title before letting go and proving Johnny's arm was fine.

This all led into Austin Theory vs. Kushida later in the night, but the match ended in a disqualification after Gargano Superkicked The Time Splitter. Dexter Lumis then got involved in the post-match brawl and the two babyfaces stood tall to end the segment.

Elsewhere on the show, Xia Li defeated Cora Jade in a squash match, William Regal granted Karrion Kross his wish for a match with Santos Escobar on next week's show and Cameron Grimes returned to the black and gold brand loaded with money having invested in Gamestop stock and dogecoin.
