Breezango def. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch and Legado del Fantasma - Number One Contender's Match for the NXT Tag Team Championship - Kickoff Show
All three teams took turns dominating the action in the early going. The first big spot came after Fandango tossed Joaquin Wilde to the outside onto the four other Superstars. Raul Mendoza later hit another big spot as he landed a Corkscrew Splash onto his opponents on the floor.
Oney Lorcan eventually made a tag to Danny Burch and the Brit ran roughshod over Wilde and Tyler Breeze. Lorcan then re-entered the match and he and Burch worked together to hit a DDT on Wilde for a two count. Breezango almost won the match moments later as Fandango hit a Leg Drop from the top rope onto Mendoza, but Wilde broke up the pin.
It was Legado del Fantasma's turn to almost win the match as Mendoza hit a Spanish Fly on Breeze and Wilde followed up with a 630 Splash.
The action then descended into chaos which gave Prince Pretty the opening he needed to hit a Superkick on Oney Lorcan for the 1-2-3.
Finn Balor def. Timothy Thatcher
Finn Balor wasted no time as he charged at Timothy Thatcher as soon as the bell rang. The British Messiah quickly took Finn to the mat though and the two Superstars tried to lock in various submissions. Thatcher eventually wore Balor down with a Front Facelock.
Thatcher worked over Balor with more submissions for several minutes, including the Kimura Lock and the Bow And Arrow Choke. Balor fought to a vertical base after a few more minutes and The Prince and The British Messiah exchanged strikes in the centre of the ring.
Balor tried to hit a Slingblade but Thatcher went for another Kimura Lock. Finn managed to counter into a Double Stomp, however. The former Universal Champion even locked in his own submission with the Abdominal Stretch. Finn then went for the Coup De Grace but Thatcher rolled out of the way.
Upon landing, Finn quickly grabbed his knee. Seeing his opportunity, Thatcher's eyes lit up and he charged at Balor to lock in a Single Boston Crab. Balor managed to make it to the ropes, however.
Thatcher then cinched in the Ankle Lock but Balor countered into another Double Stomp. He hit a Coup De Grace moments later and followed up with The 1916 for the 1-2-3.
Damian Priest def. Cameron Grimes, Johnny Gargano, The Velveteen Dream and Bronson Reed in a Ladder Match to win the North American Championship
Bronson Reed and Damian Priest quickly eliminated the competition. Dream charged into the ring and hit Priest with a Fameasser to stop the big men from coming to blows. Cameron Grimes tried to collect a ladder but could only find a miniature version. Priest then retrieved a normal ladder and the weapon found it's way into the ring after Gargano speared The Technical Savage.
Another ladder made its way into the ring. Grimes tried to climb both ladders but Dream and Priest pulled them apart, forcing The Technical Savage into an awful position.
Priest, Dream and Gargano were trapped in the corner by three ladders. Reed tossed Grimes into them and hit a Splash onto the ladders. Everyone but Gargano then combined to hit a Powerbomb-German Suplex-Suplerplex super move.
Priest was the first man to recover and his fingertips touched the title before Velveteen Dream pulled him from the ladder. The Archer Of Infamy was able to fight off Velveteen but Grimes entered the action before Priest could scale the ladder. The other Superstars re-entered the ring and Gargano hit a One Final Beat DDT on Bronson Reed while The Auszilla's head was trapped in a ladder.
Johnny TakeOver then demolished everyone as he tossed a ladder at Damian Priest and hit a Suicide Dive on Bronson Reed. Cameron Grimes stopped Gargano in his path with a Spanish Fly. Dream dived onto Grimes and Bronson Reed hit a Tope Suicida onto the three Superstars.
Later, Priest ran up a ladder and hit a Senton onto Gargano, Dream and Reed. This gave Grimes the opportunity to scale the ladder but he was stopped in his path by a concerned Candice LeRae. Candice hit Cameron Grimes and Johnny Wrestling appeared to hit his wife in the head with a ladder, but she shrugged it off and Grimes sold the move.
LeRae hit a Hurricanrana on Grimes which sent The Technical Savage flying into Dream and Priest. Bronson Reed tried to scale the ladder and he had his hands on the title before Candice climbed on his back. This didn't stop The Auszilla as he hit a Splash from the ladder onto Gargano while LeRae was on his back.
Priest, Reed and Grimes then fought on two ladders. Grimes knocked Bronson and Damian down. Dream re-entered the action and slotted a ladder into another standing ladder and draped it across the middle rope. Dream went for the Elbow Drop and slapped the belt. He didn't grab it though and was slapped to the floor by The Archer Of Infamy. Grimes then Superkicked Priest but Gargano stopped him from climbing the ladder. Johnny TakeOver looked to earn his nickname as he spun into a Sitout Powerbomb onto a ladder.
Dream drove Gargano into Damian Priest with a Dream Valley Driver. Dream had his hands on the title but Bronson Reed tipped the ladder over sending Velveteen flying into a pile of tables. Reed then had the title won but Grimes kicked The Auszilla to the floor. Grimes scaled the ladder but Gargano knocked him down. Priest climbed the ladder and he and Gargano battled over the title, but The Archer Of Infamy gained the advantage and captured the North American Championship.
Adam Cole def. Pat McAfee
McAfee and Cole exchanged grapples in the early going. McAfee rolled to the outside and The Undisputed ERA and McAfee's posse tried to fight each other but security headed to the ring. This gave Pat the opening he needed to hit a Senton onto everybody on the outside.
McAfee worked over Cole for the next several minutes with Submissions, Slams and a Thumb to the eye. McAfee taunted Cole but the Leader of The Undisputed ERA fought back with a Slap to the face. Pat and the former NXT Champion then exchanged Slaps. Cole went for the Last Shot but McAfee ducked. This only gave Cole the chance to hit a Backstabber for a two count.
McAfee fought back into the matchup. He then went for a Superplex but Cole fought him off. McAfee didn't fall to the floor, however, as he did a Moonsault to the floor and landed on his feet. He then channelled his inner Kurt Angle as he leapt to the top rope and hit a picture-perfect Superplex on Cole for a two count.
Cole was draped across the apron and the former Indianapolis Colt went for the Punt but Cole moved and McAfee booted the steel steps. The former NFL player screamed in pain and the former NXT Champion smelled blood as he tossed his opponent into the ring and locked in the Figure Four Leglock.
McAfee somehow managed to make it to the bottom rope, however. McAfee called Cole a little punk. Cole charged in and booted him, but the referee pulled him away before calling for a disqualification. Cole ran around the referee but his enthusiasm almost cost him the match as Pat connected with a Low Blow.
He followed up with the Punt but Cole got his shoulder up at two. McAfee went for a Dive but the Leader of The Undisputed ERA caught him with a Superkick. Cole then taunted his opponent and connected with the Panama Sunrise for the win.
Io Shirai def. Dakota Kai to retain the NXT Women's Championship
#FireVelveteenDream is currently trending on Twitter.
Dakota Kai gained the upper hand in the early going with the help of Raquel Gonzalez and worked over the champion's left arm.
Shirai eventually stopped the challenger's onslaught with a vicious Uppercut. She followed up with a flurry of moves and a 619, but Kai got her shoulder up at two. Kai went after the left arm again but Io showed her resilience as she screamed at Dakota and hit her with some vicious forearms. The two Superstars then exchanged offence and Shirai hit a flurry of Double Knees into the bottom turnbuckle. She followed up with a Double Stomp while Kai was draped in the turnbuckle for another two count.
Kai worked over the injured left arm again soon after. Kai almost picked up the win but Shirai got her foot on the bottom rope. The referee was then taken out after Dakota went for a Boot in the corner but Io ducked. Shirai took advantage and landed her patented Moonsault.
Raquel Gonzalez saw an opportunity, however, as she charged into the ring and took out the champion. She then draped her friend over the champion and the referee suddenly regained consciousness. Gonzalez didn't do enough damage though, as Io kicked out at two.
Moments later, Shirai locked in a Crossface and followed up with a Knee to the face. She hit a Moonsault to the outside onto Gonzalez and Kai. The champion hit another Moonsault on Kai inside the ring for the 1-2-3.
After the bell, Gonzalez attacked Shirai from behind. This brought out Rhea Ripley and she and Raquel stared each other down to end the segment.
Karrion Kross def. Keith Lee to win the NXT Championship
Before the main event, WWE announced NXT UK will return on September 17. Tommaso Ciampa will also make his return to the black and gold brand this Wednesday.
Keith Lee shocked Karrion Kross in the opening seconds as he put him on his ass with a Shoulder Tackle. The Champion showed no fear moments later, as, after Kross connected with a few shots on the outside, Lee stared him down and only just missed with a vicious Haymaker. The missed punch gave The Herald Of Doomsday the opening to kick Lee in the arm.
Kross worked over Lee's left arm inside the squared circle for the next several minutes.
Lee eventually fought his way back into the match as he rocked Kross with a hellacious Forearm. He followed up with more vicious Strikes and a Powerslam. Both The Limitless One and The Herald Of Doomsday got in some offence over the next few minutes as Kross landed a Big Boot while Lee hit a massive Headbutt and Suplex for a two count.
Kross almost won the match after catching the NXT Champion with a Clothesline. The two Superstars exchanged Strikes in the middle of the ring but Lee won the confrontation with a hellacious Clothesline.
The champion and challenger battled back and forth and Kross almost had the match won again after connecting with a Doomsday Saito Suplex. Kross locked in the Kross Jacket moments later. Lee went limp but suddenly regained consciousness before his hand hit the mat. He then hulked up and made it to the bottom rope.
Lee hit a Spirit Bomb but the challenger kicked out at two. Keith went to the top rope but Karrion stopped him in his tracks. Both Superstars threw Haymarkers at each other before Kross hit a Doomsday Saito Suplex from the middle rope. The Herald Of Doomsday then covered the champion for the 1-2-3.
