WWE Raw Results - March 8, 2021: WWE Championship Rematch, Bizarre Shane McMahon Promo
The road to Fastlane continues
Mar 9, 2021
As Fastlane and WrestleMania 37 continue to draw closer, WWE wrote the latest chapter in multiple rivalries on this week's Monday Night Raw.
Following Bobby Lashley's WWE Title win last week, The Miz's rematch opened the show. Both men had the opportunity to cut promos before the match and Lashley declared The All Mighty era had begun while Miz lamented on last week's events and said it was unfair that he had to defend the WWE Championship twice in one night, especially when he had stomach cramps.
Despite The A-Lister's twisted narrative, he fared no better against Lashley once the WWE Title rematch got underway and The All Mighty pulverised Miz once again, this time for nine minutes, before he forced the challenger to tap out with the Hurt Lock.
Following the match, WWE turned it's attention to the next possible WWE Title challenger as Drew McIntyre questioned Bobby Lashley's character. Drew didn't have the chance to finish his promo, though, as Sheamus suddenly attacked The Scottish Psychopath from out of nowhere.
This led to a No Disqualification match later in the show and both men left each other battered and bruised after an 18-minute bout. Fans weren't given a definitive winner, however, as Sheamus and McIntyre decked each other with simultaneous steel step shots and the official determined they were unable to continue. The pair seem destined to have a final confrontation at Fastlane.
The next chapter of the Braun Strowman-Shane McMahon storyline was also written on Monday Night Raw and both men were featured in two bizarre segments.
The first segment began with a Strowman promo during which The Monster Among Men declared he was over not being in the Elimination Chamber but that he didn't understand why Shane gave him a Raw Tag Team Title match, especially after he cost him the win. Strowman then said McMahon was laughing at him but stated he could snap the Prodigal Son's "neck like a twig." The Monster Among Men did backtrack, however, as he noted Shane could also fire him and he isn't looking to get sacked.
Strowman then demanded an apology and The Boy Wonder did apologise in the ring before he teased speaking some more and headed to the back.
This ultimately played into another segment between the two men later in the show during which Shane said a whole lot of nothing. He repeatedly stalled during his promo to the point some fans were worried about his wellbeing, and when he did finally get going he stated it's okay to have fun at others' expense and referred to examples of people calling Strowman stupid. This enraged The Monster Among Men who chased Shane around Tropicana Field until a car suddenly sped away. Strowman seemingly believed McMahon was inside the vehicle as he angrily stomped away, but Shane reappeared once Strowman was out of earshot and called the former Universal Champion stupid to end the segment.
The rivalry between Alexa Bliss and Randy Orton also continued on Raw. AJ Styles and Randy Orton faced off in the main event after an earlier confrontation about Bliss' mind games and further interference from the five-time women's champion materialised during the match's final moments.
Bliss suddenly appeared on the titantron inside a pentagram after Omos thwarted an RKO attempt. She told the jack-in-the-box "not yet" before she blew out a match which caused the ring posts to explode with flame and Orton to cough up more black bile.
While Orton tried not to suffocate, AJ Styles connected with a Phenomenal Forearm from out of nowhere for the 1-2-3.
Elsewhere on Raw, WWE previewed both of next week's championship matches as Xavier Woods defeated Shelton Benjamin while Riddle overcame Slapjack.
Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax also defended the Women's Tag Team Championship against Lana and Naomi but the action largely focussed on Carmella's former sommelier Reginald. He incessantly distracted the challengers during the short match and he ultimately helped Jax and Baszler to victory as one final distraction allowed Jax to overpower Lana and connect with a Powerbomb for the win.
Other women have also seemingly taken exception to Charlotte Flair's announcement that she wants to face Asuka at WrestleMania 37 as Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke cut a backstage promo and said they shouldn't be overlooked for The Showcase Of The Immortals. This ultimately led to an interruption from Flair who said they have five weeks to prove it.
