Draft picks and plenty of short matches
Oct 5, 2021
WWE headed to the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee for the special Draft edition of Monday Night Raw on October 4, 2021.
The show featured plenty of picks and Becky Lynch wasted no time in revealing she was Raw's first selection of the evening as she opened up the episode. The Man was quickly interrupted by Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair, though, and after some bickering, Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce booked Belair vs. Flair for the main event.
In that main event, both women fought back and forth for 13 minutes and Belair looked to have the win after she decked the SmackDown Women's Champion with the Kiss Of Death. Lynch, who was sat on commentary, suddenly pulled Belair from the ring, though, to draw the disqualification. The Man then looked set to end Raw standing tall but Sasha Banks attacked both Lynch and Belair as Raw went off the air.
Beyond Becky Lynch, Raw drafted several wrestlers from SmackDown, including Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, The Street Profits, Carmella and new WWE signing Gable Steveson.
WWE also filled Raw with several short matches in between all the draft picks, including two title bouts.
Damian Priest defended his United States Championship against Jeff Hardy in singles action and The Archer Of Infamy picked up the win with a Crucifix Pin after six minutes. New Raw draftee Austin Theory then made his way to the ring following the match and after initially asking Hardy for a selfie, Theory decimated The Charismatic Enigma to leave him lying.
Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H also successfully retained their Women's Tag Team Championship against Tamina and Natalya after four minutes of action.
Elsewhere on Raw, Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza used dirty tactics to defeat Mustafa Ali and Mansoor, and The New Day vanquished The Hurt Business. Shayna Baszler also defeated Dana Brooke but she was stopped from dislocating Dana's elbow by Doudrop.
WWE also set two big matches for the Crown Jewel pay-per-view on Raw.
In the WWE Title picture, Drew McIntyre challenged Big E to a championship match but before the WWE Champion could accept, new Raw draftees Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode interrupted. After Dolph reminded fans of his history with both men, Big E and Big D (Drew's nickname for himself) faced The Dirty Dawgs in a tag team match and quickly defeated them. The WWE Champion then accepted McIntyre's challenge and the match will take place at Crown Jewel.
Goldberg's lust for murder also continued unabated on Raw and the WWE Hall Of Famer and Bobby Lashley agreed to square off in a No Holds Barred Match at Crown Jewel. Goldberg was delighted by the stipulation and he channelled his inner James Bond, telling Lashley that The All Mighty had just given him a licence to kill. Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin then tried to attack Goldberg but they failed miserably and the 54-year-old ended the segment standing tall.
