WWE Release Drake Maverick, Curt Hawkins, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Heath Slater, Eric Young, EC3 & Lio Rush

Eight Superstars gone after Vince McMahon told company employees of cutbacks...

WWE have just announced that Drake Maverick, Curt Hawkins, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Heath Slater, Eric Young, EC3 & Lio Rush have been released from the company.

Here is the brief statement posted to WWE.com a short while ago:

"WWE has come to terms on the release of Drake Maverick (James Curtin), Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers), Karl Anderson (Chad Allegra), Luke Gallows (Drew Hankinson), Heath Slater (Heath Miller), Eric Young (Jeremy Fritz), EC3 (Michael Hutter) and Lio Rush (Lionel Green). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors."

The release of Anderson and Gallows especially is a surprising one, given the fact that the former Raw Tag Team Champions reportedly signed new five-year contracts with WWE last summer.

The announcement comes just hours after Vince McMahon informed WWE employees that cutbacks and furloughs were on their way for the company's staff. It would appear the five Superstars released this afternoon could be the first of many.

Per a report from PWInsider, Vince McMahon and WWE will be placing some staff and wrestlers on furlough leave, while others will be released from the company indefinitely. The report also states that everyone will learn of their fate via text message.
