WWE Signing Top Free Agent

WWE adding a top free agent to the roster

WWE have landed one of the top free agents still on the market.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Tama Tonga is heading to WWE. There are no details on when Tonga will make his WWE TV debut, nor how long he will be under contract with the promotion. Fightful Select have also reported that Tonga is expected to land in WWE, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Tama Tonga had been with New Japan Pro-Wrestling for the past 14 years, founding Bullet Club in the process, but he exited the promotion following his farewell match at day two of the New Beginning in Sapporo on February 24. Tonga's contract expired at the end of January and he revealed following his NEVER Openweight Title win at Wrestle Kingdom 18 that he would be leaving the promotion as he wants to spend more time with his family.

Tonga said on the NJPW Midnight Wrestle & Kingdom podcast"You know, I came here for the G1 for one month and I went home and my kids grew up too fast. I missed their birthdays, I miss so many things and as I’m getting older, I don’t wanna miss my kids growing up. I love Japan, but I love my wife and my kids and I wanna be there. I wanna be a part of their life growing up."

WWE have been interested in signing Tama Tonga going back to early 2016 when AJ Styles, The Good Brothers, and Shinsuke Nakamura signed with the company. WWE then renewed their interest in 2023 but Tonga opted to re-sign with New Japan at the time.
