Xia Li Teases Return Of Old Gimmick
Could Xia Li’s NXT character be set to make a return?
Despite a strong debut and a statement win over Natalya on SmackDown, Xia Li’s main roster run has been practically non-existent, with Li’s win over Natalya in February her only televised match since her call-up in December 2021.
Things may be about to change for ‘The Protector’ as Li posted a short film to social media, hinting that her former gimmick could be getting dusted off.
In the video Li is shown training and handling various martial arts weapons, before images of Tian Sha's Mei Ying flash on screen as Li emerges from water.
The Tian Sha gimmick in NXT saw Li and Boa under the spell of Mei Ying (now known as Wendy Choo) a 1,000 year old master of evil. Whilst the gimmick had its share of detractors, it was certainly unique, and seeing as Li is presented as a master of electricity on SmackDown then maybe it isn’t such a leap in terms of believability.
There’s no word as of yet if there are indeed plans for Li to revert to this old gimmick, or if this was just Li shooting her shot online.
