Backstage News On Lucha Bros Teaming With Mistico At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2024

Lucha Bros and Mistico to shockingly team at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024

The upcoming third annual AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view has not been put together without some careful political manoeuvring, with the addition of CMLL to the fray causing some small headaches for All Elite Wrestling.

Due to CMLL’s historic and tense rivalry with Lucha Libre AAA, it was unknown whether AAA-affiliated wrestlers would be able to appear on the broadcast alongside CMLL names, but this issue was seemingly negotiated with the announcement that former AAA stars The Lucha Bros will be teaming with CMLL icon Mistico to take on Los Ingobernables de Japon at Forbidden Door.

Whilst on the face of it this seems to be a historic crossing of the ‘real’ forbidden door between CMLL and AAA, it’s not quite what it seems, with LuchaBlog revealing that due to past comments from Pentagon about respecting AAA but not working there this year then in CMLL’s eyes he and Rey Fenix were not AAA wrestlers, and were able to book the match - a bout that Penta himself is believed to have wanted.

After the match was officially announced and promoted on X/Twitter, AEW, NJPW, and CMLL liaison Rocky Romero offered some clarification on The Lucha Bros’ status: “Note: Penta 0M & Rey Fenix are contracted to AEW and not affiliated with any other company.”

Regardless of the intricacies of the deal, it will still be remarkable to see The Lucha Bros and Mistico share a ring. For fans not familiar with lucha libre this is a sight no one ever thought possible, akin to when Sting arrived in WWE.
