Bayley Explains Why She Decided To Turn Heel

Many believed that Bayley would be a 'career babyface' prior to her 2019 turn

WWE star Bayley has explained why she decided to join the darkside, noting that she doesn't regret her heel turn.

The former Women's Champion turned heel in September of 2019. She has continued to be a heel after returning from a lengthy injury layoff at SummerSlam 2022, where she formed Damage CTRL with Dakota Kai and IYO SKY.

Prior to her 2019 turn, it was thought by many that The Hugger could be a career babyface in the vein of Ricky Steamboat, Rey Mysterio and John Cena.

During an interview with Dr. Beau Hightower, Bayley discussed comparisons to some of WWE's best good guys, noting that she used to be compared with some of WWE's most notable babyfaces a lot earlier in her career.

"I used to get that a lot. Not recently because...I'm the bad guy, but when I was a good guy, I think it meant a lot when I was hearing it from my peers because they were just like, 'You're probably the most white meat babyface that people are genuinely behind'. They could just actually see no evil in me," she said.

The first-ever Women's Grand Slam Champion added: "I think I needed to make the change for myself. Nobody's John Cena. I wouldn't be able to do what he did for that long" (after joking about the difference in merchandise sales between being a babyface and heel).
