Johnny Gargano Explains Why He Returned To WWE NXT

Johnny Gargano on his WWE NXT return

After over a year away from the developmental brand, Johnny Gargano returned to NXT on Tuesday, March 7 at Roadblock as the NXT Grand Slam Champion attacked Grayson Waller with the invitation of Shawn Michaels. Gargano and Waller are set to go one-on-one at Stand & Deliver on Saturday, April 1 ahead of WrestleMania 39.

Following his NXT return, Gargano explained on Twitter why he decided to go back to the developmental brand on March 7.

"Because of you [Grayson Waller].. my story in @WWENXT ended on a cliffhanger 15 months ago. You took my moment from me and I never forgot that. I waited patiently for the right time & place.. April 1st.. Wrestlemania Weekend.. I shut you up & close the book my way. #JohnnyTakeOver #OneMoreTime," Gargano tweeted.

Johnny Wrestling is referring to his goodbye to NXT in December 2021 as his WWE contract was set to expire. Gargano didn't get to walk out of NXT as he was attacked by Grayson Waller following his farewell speech.

Gargano ultimately returned to WWE in August 2022, re-signing with the company, and he has been featured on Monday Night Raw over the past several months.
