Bruce Prichard Details WWE Trying To Bring Back Stone Cold Steve Austin After He Walked Out

The two sides were trying to work things out in late 2002

While discussing the Armageddon 2002 pay-per-view on a recent edition of his Something to Wrestle With podcast, Bruce Prichard touched on the company's efforts to bring Steve Austin back into the fold.

Stone Cold famously walked out of the company prior to the June 10, 2002 Raw taping. Austin had been unhappy with the creative direction of his character, as well as that of the company in general, for months. The final straw came when he was asked to put over Brock Lesnar in a King of the Ring qualifying match on that night's show.

Speaking about the communication between the Texas Rattlesnake and WWE at the time, Prichard said:

"It was more Steve was going to have to come to us. JR was working hard. He was working real hard on it. Vince's feeling was Steve walked out. Steve left us, we didn't leave Steve. If and when Steve wants to come back we'll listen".

The two sides would soon sort their differences out and Austin would return to the company at No Way Out 2003.
