CM Punk Mentioned At Glasgow City Council Meeting

CM Punk finds his way into local Glaswegian politics. 

WWE will return to Glasgow, Scotland later this year, with Friday Night SmackDown on June 14 and the Clash at the Castle pay-per-view on June 15 both set to emanate from the OVO Hydro. Drew McIntyre has been featured prominently in promotional materials for Clash at the Castle and CM Punk teased showing up at the pay-per-view on Monday Night Raw by hiding in a bowl of haggis and then attacking McIntyre. 

Punk's comments were brought up by Glasgow City Council Leader Susan Aitken at a council meeting on May 16, during which she hyped up Clash at the Castle in the city. 

"It is quite unusual for me to be welcoming an event that is being trailed by one of its key protagonists with the unforgettable line 'If you make me go to Glasgow, I'm going to be hiding in a bowl of haggis and and I'm going to pop out and break your face. Seriously though, as I understand it, this is the first-ever WWE premium live event staged in Scotland. It is one of the first in the UK and it sees us join Toronto, Berlin and Perth, Australia in staging this two-day event," Aitken said.

"It will be viewed in around 180 countries and I am reliably informed that it is a massive deal for the wrestling fraternity and I have no doubt that those two nights at the Hydro will be quite a big opportunity for Glasgow. Having secured it once again, points to Glasgow's standing as an international events city and sheer hard work that goes into ensuring that the event economy remains crucial to our economic reputational success as a city."

WWE Clash at the Castle is still not sold out and the company has faced a backlash over ticket prices for the pay-per-view. The cheapest ticket currently available for the show sits at £333.35, while fans looking to sit in the third row will need to fork out £1,602.70. 

In addition to Drew McIntyre, advertised talents for Clash at the Castle include Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, and Jey Uso.
