Kenny Omega Vs. Joey Janela Added To AEW Dynamite

The tournament match that never happened...

On this Wednesday's episode of Dynamite, AEW World champion Kenny Omega will face Joey Janela in an "anything goes" non-title match, in which Janela could earn a title shot with a victory.

AEW formally announced the match on Friday. It stems from Omega issuing the challenge while being filmed by media at the airport. He referred to Janela as, "the one blemish on my record."

Janela was supposed to wrestle Omega in the opening round of the AEW World title number one contender's tournament. However, contact tracing led to Janela being pulled from the match, and replaced by partner Sonny Kiss. Omega subsequently beat Kiss in a matter of seconds.

Omega went on to win the tournament, defeating "Hangman" Adam Page in the finals on November 7 at AEW Full Gear. He later defeated Jon Moxley on December 2 to become AEW champion.

The card for this Wednesday's AEW Dynamite is as follows:

* Non-title/anything goes: Kenny Omega vs. Joey Janela

* Chris Jericho, MJF, Sammy Guevara, Santana, Ortiz, Jake Hager, and Wardlow vs. Best Friends, Top Flight, The Varsity Blondes, and Brandon Cutler

* Cody Rhodes vs. Angelico

* Adam Page, Alex Reynolds, and John Silver vs. Matt Hardy and Private Party

* Serena Deeb and Big Swole vs. Ivelisse and Diamante

* Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian vs. The Acclaimed
