New IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Crowned At NJPW Castle Attack

Who walked away with the gold?

El Phantasmo, BUSHI and El Desperado faced off for the vacant IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at today's Castle Attack show at Osaka-Jo Hall.

All three men put on an excellent match which featured multiple spectacular spots and near falls and El Desperado was the man who had his hand raised after 23 minutes.

The match came down to El Phantasmo and Despe in the final moments and the Suzuki-gun member managed to get the better of their exchange and connect with two Pinche Locos for the pinfall victory.

With the win, El Desperado captured the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at the fourth attempt and in his first title shot since 2018. It also rounds off a memorable week for Despe as he and Yoshinobu Kanemaru regained the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship from El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori on Thursday's Road To Castle Attack show.

The Suzuki-gun member could add even more gold to his collection on March 4 as he will face Kota Ibushi at the 49th Anniversary Show. The IWGP Heavyweight Champion and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion have faced off on the Anniversary show in recent years, but El Desperado challenged Ibushi to make it more than a singles match and put the Double Championship on the line following Castle Attack's main event. Ibushi accepted, but NJPW still needs to make the match official as of the time of writing.
