NJPW G1 Climax 30 Day 1 & 2 Results

Some surprising results...

New Japan Pro-Wrestling's G1 Climax 30 kicked off over the weekend as day one and day two of the annual tournament were held at the Edion Arena Osaka in Osaka, Japan.

The first matches from the A Block took place on Saturday and featured the returns of Jeff Cobb, Jay White and Will Ospreay. White and Cobb had competed in NJPW USA, but the three men had been unable to travel to Japan until September 1 because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Ospreay and The Switchblade marked their returns with impressive victories over Yujiro Takahashi and Shingo Takagi but The Hawaiian Hulk was less successful as he was defeated by Taichi. In the main event, Kazuchika Okada and Kota Ibushi went one on one in a rematch from Wrestle Kingdom 14. The Golden Star emerged victorious on this occasion, however, after he caught Okada with the Kamigoye. Minoru Suzuki also defeated Tomohiro Ishii earlier in the day.

Check out the results from day one below:
• Yuya Uemura def. Yota Tsuji
• Will Ospreay def. Yujiro Takahashi
• Taichi def. Jeff Cobb
• Minoru Suzuki def. Tomohiro Ishii
• Jay White def. Shingo Takagi
• Kota Ibushi def. Kazuchika Okada

On Sunday, the B block began and the event featured some surprising results and what many have tipped to be a match of the tournament candidate between Tetsuya Naito and Hiroshi Tanahashi. The Double Champion and The Ace Of The Universe battled back and forth for 27 minutes but Naito ultimately picked up the win with Destino. Elsewhere on the show, Zack Sabre Jr. used his technical wrestling skill to pin former Double Champion EVIL, Toru Yano vanquished SANADA, a more serious Juice Robinson defeated YOSHI-HASHI and KENTA pinned Hirooki Goto.

The day two results were as follows:
• Yota Tsuji def. Gabriel Kidd
• Juice Robinson def. YOSHI-HASHI
• Toru Yano def. SANADA
• KENTA def. Hirooki Goto
• Zack Sabre Jr. def. EVIL
• Tetsuya Naito def. Hiroshi Tanahashi

The G1 Climax 30 will return on Wednesday with the second round of matches from the A Block.
