“OOOOOOH YEAH” came the cry from the maternity suite in Columbus, Ohio on November 15, 1952, as Randall Poffo was born, better known to you and I as the legendary Macho Man Randy Savage. We can only assume baby Savage was born with a beard and cowboy hat.
One of the most celebrated and influential names in pro-wrestling history, Savage was born into the industry, his father Angelo Poffo being a wrestler and promoter based out of Kentucky. After making his name in his father’s ICW, and later Jerry Lawler’s CWA, Savage made his way to Vince McMahon’s ever-expanding WWF, becoming one of the biggest stars in history as a result.
With Miss Elizabeth by his side, and possessing a unique promo style, and a rapid aggressive in-ring style, Savage became a highly decorated figure in WWF, winning the Intercontinental and WWF Championships, before joining WCW.
In WCW, Savage again held gold, with several WCW World Heavyweight Championship runs to his name, as well as being a cornerstone of the New World Order.
