Report: AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door To Return In 2023

AEW and NJPW will open the Forbidden Door again in 2023

Despite a fairly underwhelming build, AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in June 2022 ended up being one of the best PPVs of the year, further strengthening the relationship between AEW and New Japan.

A sequel event has been long rumoured, and a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that Forbidden Door II could be set for 2023.

Meltzer was commenting on Tony Khan’s recent pre-ROH Final Battle media call in particular Khan’s claims that 2022 was AEW’s strongest year for PPV buys. Khan was asked about AEW adding more PPVs to their yearly rotation, and whilst Khan didn’t give a definitive answer, he did tout the success of adding a fifth show (Forbidden Door) with Meltzer noting that the plan is for another Forbidden Door show in 2023.

With Katsuyori Shibata recently wrestling for AEW, and several AEW stars also plying their trade in NJPW STRONG and New Japan proper, then a follow-up Forbidden Door event is definitely not out of the question.
