Report: WWE NXT Talent Concerned About Possible Releases

Concern about releases within WWE NXT

WWE carried out releases following WrestleMania 40, letting go six talents on Friday, April 19 before one more wrestler was let go on Tuesday, April 23. The talents will be free agents when their non-compete clauses expire.

The most surprising release for many was former NXT North American Champion Cameron Grimes. The likes of former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, Veer, Sanga, Xyon Quinn, Xia Li, and Von Wagner were also fired.

Although Von Wagner was used on NXT and Xyon Quinn was never designated to a WWE brand, all of the wrestlers released were considered main roster talents. As NXT went untouched, there are some talents on the development brand that have privately expressed concern that cuts to NXT could be on the horizon, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider. There is no word on if WWE are planning to carry out further releases.

NXT did recently lose several talents, although this was because a number of wrestlers were called up to the main roster. Top talents to move to either Raw or SmackDown were former NXT champions Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes. The likes of Blair Davenport, Dijak, Kiana James, and former NXT Women's Champion Lyra Valkyria also moved to the main roster.
