Report: WWE Talks Over Partnership With NJPW Grow Stale

The potential partnership was rumoured last month

With all talks of forbidden doors and the like, the one few people saw coming was a potential partnership between WWE and NJPW.

Rumours abounded last month that the two wrestling powerhouses were discussing terms on a potential deal, with AEW head Tony Khan throwing shade at WWE’s Nick Khan in a tongue-in-cheek segment on television.

Now, per a report from The Wrestling Oberver’s Dave Meltzer, these talks have stalled, with the assumption being that if anything the talks have gotten colder, not hotter.

If a deal were ever to materialise it would no doubt be a game changer, and would complete change the wrestling landscape. However, due to the way WWE likes to do business, it would probably take a lot for a company the size of NJPW to play ball.

This isn’t WWE’s first alleged foray into the Japanese market, with talks between WWE and the likes of Pro Wrestling NOAH, and Stardom allegedly taking place in previous years.

WWE is seemingly keen on launching an NXT Japan to go alongside its USA and UK chapters, but there is no word if a partnership with NJPW would involve the formation of such a promotion.
