AEW's Tony Khan: NJPW Thought My Promo Aimed At WWE Was Great

The peculiar promo split opinion on social media

Tony Khan has revealed he discussed his promo aimed at WWE and WWE President Nick Khan with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The All Elite Wrestling founder and CEO dropped a video promo on AEW's social media platforms on Friday 28 May aimed at WWE after reports emerged that the promotion had held talks with NJPW about becoming their exclusive American partner.

Those conversations, reportedly instigated by WWE President Nick Khan, come even though NJPW have a working relationship with AEW, with the likes of Yuji Nagata, Ren Naraita, and Rocky Romero all appearing on AEW television in recent weeks.

AEW's Khan says he asked NJPW if they thought the promo was a good idea, and received their sign-off, before releasing the video.

Speaking at the AEW Double Or Nothing post-show Media Scrum, he said: "I talked to New Japan and I asked them if they thought it would be a good idea and a good promo. They thought it was great and I thought it would be a great promo. It made sense. It was a big weekend for us and it's true, we have a lot of stuff going with New Japan.

"Everyone is welcome to talk to each other and we've done some great stuff with New Japan just in the last few weeks and I think we're going to do a lot of great things going forward with everything we've talked about and agreed to. I'm excited about it."
