Swerve Strickland's First PPV Challenger For AEW World Title Revealed

Swerve Strickland's AEW Double or Nothing opponent revealed

Swerve Strickland's first defence of the AEW World Championship on pay-per-view has been revealed.

The AEW World Champion opened the May 1 edition of Dynamite, making his way to the ring and insulting The Elite for their beatdown of Tony Khan last week. The Young Bucks, in their role as AEW EVPs, then introduced Strickland's opponent at Double or Nothing, revealing none other than Christian Cage.

Cage, making his first appearance on TV since losing the TNT Title to Adam Copeland, proceeded to bring up Strickland's attack on Nick Wayne from the Summer of 2023 and their failure to defeat Sting and Darby Allin at All In 2023. After a beatdown from The Patriarchy, Cage took a piece of Strickland's hair and said Swerve's daughter would soon have a father she could be truly proud of.

Swerve Strickland captured the AEW World Title at Dynasty, defeating Samoa Joe for the belt. He has defended it once so far, defeating Claudio Castagnoli on AEW Collision.

Also set for Double or Nothing is an AEW Women's World Title match between Toni Storm and Serena Deeb. The challenger earned the match after defeating Mariah May on Dynamite.

Double or Nothing will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday, May 26. The updated card is as follows:

  • Swerve Strickland (c) vs. Christian Cage - AEW World Championship
  • Toni Storm (c) vs. Serena Deeb - AEW Women's World Championship
  • Roderick Strong (c) vs. Will Ospreay - International Championship
  • Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Mercedes Moné - TBS Championship
