Swerve Strickland Wins AEW World Title At Dynasty

Swerve Strickland defeats Samoa Joe to become AEW World champion

Swerve Strickland is the new AEW World champion, after defeating Samoa Joe in the main event of AEW Dynasty on Sunday night in St. Louis.

For the finish, Joe attempted the Muscle Buster, but Swerve managed to fight him off on the top rope. Swerve leapt over Joe to the mat, then powerbombed him into position to set up for the Swerve Stomp to finish. At one juncture, Swerve fought his way out of the Cocquina Clutch by wrenching at Joe's hand, which he injured earlier in the match.

Swerve celebrated at ringside with Prince Nana and numerous fans after the match as Dynasty went off the air. For his ring entrance, Swerve dressed as Killmonger from Black Panther.

With the win, Strickland becomes a champion for the second time in AEW. He previously reigned as World Tag Team champion with Keith Lee for two months in 2022.

Joe's reign as champion ends at 113 days. He won the title from MJF at World's End on December 30 in Uniondale, NY.
