Will Ospreay Reveals Which WWE Star Tried To "Sway" Him To Join The Company

A former WWE World Champion reached out to Will Ospreay to convince him to sign with WWE

Will Ospreay announced that he was officially signing with AEW back in November before joining the promotion full-time in February, joining the company along with some other big name free agents in Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone. It was reported that both AEW and WWE were interested in procuring Ospreay, with Ospreay even revealing during an appearance on AEW Unrestricted this week that a certain WWE talent reached out to try and “sway” him to join. This was none other than one of Ospreay’s heroes and inspirations, AJ Styles.

“AJ was on the phone to me when he was trying to, I guess the right word would be 'sway' in making my decision on which company I should (sign with). And it flatters me because AJ is my hero, everything I wanted to become.”

In the end, Ospreay made the decision to join AEW, and noted that despite Styles’ phone call, he felt like he made the correct call.

“I feel like he's always kept an eye on me. I feel like even now, I guess that's what the phone call was about, but he always keeps an eye on me every now and again but for me, coming (to AEW) was the right thing to do. I just knew coming here, I wanted to make a difference, I wanted to be part of a change in the culture.”

Over WrestleMania weekend, WWE’s Triple H made comments about certain free agents not wanting to “grind”, prompting Ospreay to respond live on AEW programming with his own shots back at The Game.
