AEW "100%" Coming To The United Kingdom In 2020
Shows in their second biggest market soon...
Professional wrestling has continued to remain popular in the United Kingdom. British independent wrestling promotion PROGRESS sold-out Wembley Arena in 2018, last year's relaunch of World Of Sport Wrestling garnered 1.3 million viewers, and WWE continues to get strong attendances for its biannual Raw and SmackDown tapings.
UK wrestling fans have also invested their time in watching All Elite Wrestling. While viewing figures for FITE.TV and ITV Hub are unavailable, Dynamite has averaged 86,000 viewers on ITV4, despite it being the third choice platform for AEW's fans.
During a recent interview with talkSPORT, Cody Rhodes explained that AEW was looking to capitalise upon fan interest in the UK, and guaranteed the young promotion would be heading across the pond in 2020. The AEW Executive Vice President elaborated, however, that he did not know whether they would be hosting a pay-per-view, an episode of Dynamite, or a special live event tour.
Rhodes did also hint they might do shows outside of London and Manchester and choose to visit other professional wrestling hotbeds.
Cody said: "100% - you can hold us to it. We are coming to the UK in 2020 and we've got some tentative dates circled, but its a matter of where you're going to hit. Are you going to hit as many markets as possible or are you just going to do London and Manchester? I can't be sure if we're coming for Dynamite, a pay-per-view or a rare live event tour, but everyone is on board with us coming in 2020."
