Austin Theory Undergoes Name Change On WWE Raw

The "future WWE Universal Champion" has a slightly new ring name.

WWE Raw Superstar Austin Theory revealed a new ring name on last night's show.

In a backstage segment with Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville, he explained that his new ring name will now simply be 'Theory', the explanation being that he and Vince McMahon felt that he'd outgrown the name Austin.

This of course comes in the wake of WrestleMania 38, where Steve Austin dished out stunners to both Theory and McMahon.

This follows the pattern of several WWE Superstars losing their first names, including the likes of Cesaro, Buddy Murphy, both Bludgeon Brothers, and perhaps most recently Matt Riddle. Others have lost the use of their surnames, such as Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo.

Theory is set to take on Finn Balor next week for the WWE United States Championship. He took on Pat McAfee in a losing effort at WrestleMania, but has been prominently featured on Raw in recent months as a protégé of McMahon's. In welcoming him to the ring at 'Mania, Vince referred to Theory as a "future Universal Champion."
