Cord-Cutting Not Solely To Blame For AEW Dynamite's Falling Viewership

AEW viewership falling even with cord-cutting taken into account

All Elite Wrestling ratings, particularly for Dynamite, remain strong on cable for Warner Bros. Discovery as Dynamite remains one of the top-ranked shows on cable on Wednesday night. AEW TV viewership is suffering from year-over-year declines, though, for all three of their weekly shows in Dynamite, Collision, and Rampage.

People in the United States cutting the cord, or cancelling their cable subscriptions, is not the only reason for AEW Dynamite's ratings being worse in 2024 than 2023, however. PWTorch has reported that Dynamite's 'coverage rating' which takes into account the total number of people who have access to TBS has averaged a 0.55 rating over the past six weeks. The same six weeks in 2023 averaged a 0.70 rating, meaning Dynamite viewership has dropped 20 per cent amongst people with access to TBS and have the means to watch Dynamite.

Even excluding competition from the Olympics, AEW Dynamite viewership still fell 18 per cent compared to the same weeks in 2023.

The reasons for AEW's falling viewership are hotly debated on social media but Warner Bros. Discovery appear to be very happy with All Elite Wrestling to the point the two sides are close to a new media rights deal that will reportedly be "at least double" the current arrangement.
