Dominik Challenges Rey Mysterio To WWE WrestleMania 39 Match

A father and son look set to collide at WrestleMania 39. 

After months of issues, Dominik Mysterio finally challenged his father Rey Mysterio to a match at the 2023 edition of the Showcase of the Immortals. The challenge came after Rey appeared on Raw to talk about his upcoming WWE Hall of Fame induction. The former WWE Champion was soon interrupted by Dominik and after more family tensions were brought up, the younger Mysterio issued the challenge. 

Rey, once again, stated that he would never fight his son and he headed backstage as Dominik tried and failed to goad his father into accepting the match.

Rey and Dominik initially teamed together in WWE, holding the SmackDown Tag Team Championships in 2021, but they split at Clash at the Castle in September 2022 when Dominik turned on his father. Rey continually refused to fight his son after the turn, even moving to SmackDown to give them separation, but Dominik decided to confront his father, first during holiday events before he simply started turning up on SmackDown.
