First-Ever WWE NXT Women's North American Champion Crowned At Battleground

NXT Women's North American Champion determined at Battleground

The inaugural WWE NXT Women's North American Champion was crowned in the opening contest of Battleground on Sunday, June 9 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A Six-Woman Ladder Match featuring Sol Ruca, Michin, Lash Legend, Jaida Parker, Fallon Henley, and Kelani Jordan took place to determine the champion and it was Kelani Jordan who walked away with the gold after she took out Michin with a Split-Legged Moonsault on a ladder and climbed another ladder to grab the gold. This came shortly after the rest of the field worked together to take out Lash Legend, throwing her out of the ring and onto a ladder on the outside.

The NXT Women's North American Title is the first championship Kelani Jordan has held in WWE. The company announced the creation of the new title at April's Stand & Deliver event. A combine and qualifying matches were held during the build to Battleground to determine who the six competitors in the Ladder Match would be.

The NXT Women's North American Title will operate as the secondary women's championship in NXT, behind the NXT Women's Title currently held by Roxanne Perez.
