Jerry Lawler No Longer Under Contract With WWE

Jerry Lawler no longer with WWE

Jerry Lawler is no longer under contract with WWE after the company quietly turned down renewing his deal at the beginning of 2024, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider

Lawler's departure surprised many, with one source noting that Lawler always would have been "taken care of" under the old regime that existed before the WWE-UFC merger into TKO Group Holdings.

The source stated: "The old company is dead. People can say they hate Vince [McMahon] and Kevin [Dunn] all they want, and they'd be right to do so, but certain people would have been taken care of. Lawler would have been one, but this isn't the old WWE.  Howard Finkel, God bless him, wouldn't have had a job for life here anymore, either."

Lawler had multiple stints in WWE from February 1992 as an in-ring performer and commentator. He stopped being a full-time commentator at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 but he continued to make sporadic appearances on WWE programming until the end of 2023.

Lawler suffered a stroke in early 2023 but he told a virtual autograph signing with East Coast Autographs Auctions that his health is now "great."

"My health is great. I'm just getting over from the doctor's to get back on the road from my knee replacement. And, of course, there's still some minor difficulties from the stroke but all of that stuff is coming around fast," Lawler said.
