Potential Opponent Revealed For John Cena's Retirement Run

John Cena is set to potentially face a big opponent during his WWE retirement tour

At the 2024 Money In The Bank premium live event, John Cena made a surprise appearance to make the stunning announcement that 2025 would be his final year as an in-ring competitor, bringing to an end a career which has spanned over two decades.

The current dates lined up for Cena for his 2025 retirement tour are the first RAW on Netflix, Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41. He did note that there may be as many as 50 dates set for him, stretching until December 2025. A new report from WRKD Wrestling on X has revealed one suggested opponent for Cena during his final year in WWE.

In a tweet, it was noted that Gunther is “penned in” to take on Cena at a “marquee PLE”.

This implies that John Cena vs. Gunther will be taking place at a major show such as the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, or SummerSlam in 2025. Gunther is set to take on Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2024, so if he does in fact win the gold and defend it against Cena, it lines Cena up with a chance to win a record 17th World Title. Several names have pitched to work with Cena during his retirement tour, one of those being CM Punk.
